Mr. Zia ul Hassan

Chairman

Mr. Zia ul Hasan has been serving as Director of Meezan Exchange Company (Pvt) Ltd., since November, 2023. He is a nominee Director of Meezan Bank and Chairman of the Board of Directors of MECL.

Mr. Zia is an MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) , MSc in Economics from Quaid-e-Azam University. He has completed executive level programs at prestigious institutions, including the associate Program at Toronto International Leadership Center for Financial Sector Supervision, Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University, USA and Advanced Management Program (AMP) from Harvard Business School, Washington, USA.

He is a gold medalist in the Institute of Bankers Pakistan examinations. Mr. Zia holds multiple international professional certifications of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CEF), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA).

He began his Career at the State Bank of Pakistan where he served in the departments of Banking Policy & Regulations and Banking Inspection. During his tenure of 11 years at SBP, he worked on Development of policies / instructions to supervise & monitor financial institutions, supervision of various World Bank projects related to banking industry and Supervision of various foreign & domestic commercial banks of Pakistan w.r.t their governance, capital adequacy, financial health, and systems & controls.

Mr. Zia joined Meezan Bank in 2005 and established new Audit function from the scratch including Business Risk Review (BRR) and Continuous Audit. He focused his energies on continuous improvement, adaptability, proactive risk management, and strong communication with internal and external stake holders, thus, ensuring that the organization can withstand disruptions and maintain its operations effectively.

He took charge of Operations in the year 2015 and revamped Operations from customer experience and controls perspective. This was achieved through extensive centralization, automation, re-engineering, training and team building.

In the year 2024, Mr. Zia’s role was enhanced to Group Executive Operations and Branch Banking. Alhamdulillah, under his dynamic leadership, Bank restructured Branch Banking, creating a more conducive environment for business growth while setting new trends of service excellence and carving paths in new business streams while keeping pace with technological changes in the banking industry.

Mr. Zia ul Hassan is the General Secretary of Bankers Club (joint forum of SBP & Banks) and a member of a large number of Meezan Bank’s internal management committees.

Syed Amir Ali

Director

Syed Amir Ali has been serving as a Director of Meezan Exchange Company (Pvt) Ltd., since June 2024 being a nominee Director of Meezan Bank.

An experienced banking professional, Syed Amir Ali has over 20 years of expertise in Finance, Treasury, Investment, and Corporate Banking, with a focus on Islamic banking. He has contributed to both domestic and international organizations, including A.F Ferguson & Co, Shell, BankIslami Pakistan Limited, and Meezan Bank. His expertise is particularly valuable in Islamic banking, where he has demonstrated leadership and innovation.

Syed Amir Ali is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certified by The CFA Institute (USA) and holds the status of a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK). Additionally, he is a Chartered Accountant (Gold Medallist) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and England & Wales. His academic credentials also include MBA (Gold Medallist) from Hamdard University, Karachi, and an LL.B. from the University of Karachi.

Syed Amir Ali first joined Meezan Bank in 2006, spearheading the corporate and investment group, before transitioning to BankIslami in 2018 as President & CEO. He rejoined Meezan Bank as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in October 2023.

Mr. Muhammad Abdullah Ahmed

Director

Mr. Muhammad Abdullah Ahmed has been serving as a Director of Meezan Exchange Company (Pvt) Ltd., since November, 2023; he is a nominee Director of Meezan Bank.

Currently he is associated with Meezan Bank as Group Head Transaction & International Banking. Mr. Muhammad Abdullah Ahmed has over 30 years of diversified banking experience covering Corporate , Banking, Treasury, Financial Institutions, Correspondent Banking, Home Remittances, Transaction Banking, and Supply Chain Financing. He has worked at Bank of America NA, National Bank of Pakistan, and Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari (KASB) Bank before joining Meezan Bank in 2005.

Mr. Abdullah has Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi. He is a fellow of the Association CambisteInternationale (ACI) - The Financial Markets Association, England & Wales in financial markets trading and a fellow of the Institute of Bankers Pakistan. He is also a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), USA as well as a certified Omega Credit Skills Assessment (CSA) professional.

Mr. Abdullah has been an active member of the local Financial Markets Association of Pakistan (FMAP) from 2000-2012. He was a member of the Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) sub-committee on Treasury and Capital Markets from 2010-2018 and the Technical Committee of the Financial Markets Association of Pakistan from 2012-2018. He has been a member of The Overseas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) sub-committee on Trade & Industry from 2019 - 2021. He has also been a board member of Al-Meezan Investment Management (AMIM) from 2015 – 2023.

Mr. Shahzad Abdullah

Director

Mr. Shahzad Abdullah has been Director of Meezan Exchange Company (Pvt) Ltd., since November, 2023; he is a nominee Director of Meezan Bank.

Currently he is associated with Meezan Bank as Group Head Treasury & Capital Markets. Mr. Shahzad Abdullah is currently heading both Treasury and Capital Markets functions of the Bank. He carries with him over 27 years of experience in Treasury, having managed both Islamic and Conventional portfolios in his respective organizations. Before joining Meezan Bank in 2013, he has worked with Emirates Bank International PJSC and Bank Alfalah Limited in senior positions in Treasury.

He holds Masters in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.

Mr. Abdullah has extensive understanding of Shariah Compliant Treasury Products as well as analytical thinking and decision-making expertise of portfolio construction, trading and funding strategies given the investment avenues available. He is also an active member of the Financial Market Association of Pakistan and also represents Meezan Bank in the Technical Committee of FMAP.
